RESEARCH AT SOUTH AFRICAN UNIVERSITY

Issued to foreign nationals who will be joining research program or writing their thesis at any South African University, longer than 90 days. 

Visas are processed and adjudicated within 5-10 working days, during which the original passport(s) will remain at the Embassy.

Your appointment will be set up approximately four (4) weeks before your departure, please e-mail bern.consular@dirco.gov.za

Application Form: Please complete in black inkdo not sign

Passport: Must be valid 30 days after the expiry of the visa

Photos: Two(2) passport photos (Swiss standard)

Itinerary: A flight reservation is required. Do not make final arrangements

Purpose of visit: A confirmation letter from the South African University, including detailed information regarding your duties, length of stay, accommodation, remuneration during your stay in RSA.

Insurance: Swiss health insurance contract copy

Criminal Record:Strafregisterauszug” on criminal-records.admin.ch (no apostille) from each country where applicant resided for a year or longer, after the age of 18

Confirmation: A letter from the Swiss University confirming the existence of programme between two universities

Financial means: 3-month detailed recent bank statement of your account. If sponsored by University or foreign state a confirmation letter is required

Swiss Residence: Foreign nationals residing in Switzerland (C, B, L) – original and copy

Visa fee: No cash Payment will be made online (if applicable)

Envelope: Self-addressed-stamped envelope for the return of the passport

The supporting documents should be in English language or officially translated. 

Please print documents before attending your appointment.  The Consular staff will no longer make any copies or print documents on your behalf.
